Energy Expert incorporates a modeling algorithm developed in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy that uses energy interval data and weather data to generate reliable feedback about how a building is performing in terms of energy use.

More specifically, the methodology used in Energy Expert is bin-based, where the bin is a set of values of a dependent variable (energy interval data) with which the value of another independent variable (outdoor air temperature) is associated.  To explain variations in energy use, two or more descriptive variables such as day of the week, hour of the day and outdoor air temperature are used.  The model is “trained” by collecting data and assigning it to bins.  The median of the values of the dependent variable (energy interval data) in the bin serves as a good representative value for both large and small numbers of samples per bin. This median value is the “Expected” or “modeled” energy value.

Energy Expert+Plus is a technical service which generates energy savings recommendations for building managers so that they can adjust their energy consumption practices for immediate savings.

Description

You can expect to see an addtional 5-10% savings by using the Energy Expert+Plus service.  For a one time service fee we will provide:

  • A high level report that identifies a set of energy savings recommendations,.

  • Direct access to a technical analyst who will walk you thru the results and recommendations.

  • An estimate of the energy savings potential, in easy to understand details.

  • A followup technical meeting six months down the road to review results.

Analysts use the following information resources for Energy Savings Measures (ESM) recommendations:

  • Historic interval data (3 months+)

  • Energy Expert modeling, with reporting applications for tracking and verification.

  • Utility invoice billing data

  • Hourly weather data

  • Simple site overview form

Features and Benefits

  • Professionally created executive level report with a series of energy saving recommendations prepared by a professional energy engineer.

  • A series of energy savings recommendations are tracked and addressed to secure energy savings over the short and long term.

Executive Statement

Energy Expert+Plus is used to understand the performance of the whole building and to determine whether there are indications of problems in the way the building or its systems are operating.

Short and long term monitoring data on whole building heating, cooling, or electricity consumption, return air temperature, etc. may be examined in an attempt to identify failures in the equipment or the systems in the building, or the data may be examined for signs of sub-optimal operation. This approach can be expected to spot large problems, e.g. problems which typically lead to increases of 5% or more in energy use.

Whole building data for heating, cooling, and non-weather-dependent electricity consumption can be used to identify a range of shut-off opportunities, scheduling changes, and operating anomalies due to improper control settings and other factors.. It is then very straightforward to reliably predict the energy savings which will be realized from correction of these problems.

It should be recognized that the systems diagnostics available from whole building data and modeling are indications of probable cause. Additional field measurements are generally needed to confirm the probable cause.

Designed for Building Owners, Energy Managers, Energy Consultants, Facility Managers, and Energy Efficiency Program Managers.  Those who are invested in bringing about positive change to a building’s operations for real, quantitative, reportable savings.
